The Nisava river is quite powerful in the gorge, which is used for two power stations ('Sićevo' and 'Ostrovica') used for electricity production, irrigation and fishery. It was put into operation in 1908. Shed light on the first house in Nis in Victory Street. On that place today, there is a memorial board. The power plant is still working today, as part of the Electric Power Industry of Serbia.
